Arnaldo Pomodoro

Arnaldo Pomodoro (Italy, 1926–)

Sfera con sfera, 1978–1980

Bronze, 250×250×250cm

On the surface of the bronze sphere that has been polished like a mirror is a fissure-like crack, and through the opening, its inside is exposed. The appearance of the crack, which looks like teeth marks, and the interior, which seems to have been eaten away, are such a contrast to the smooth external surface that it shocks the viewer.

While Pomodoro creates monumental sculptures and is one of the greatest sculptors of postwar Italy, he is also a stage designer for opera and theater.
